There are currently two airports that are serving the beautiful island of Boracay – Kalibo and Caticlan.
If you want to save time from the 2 hour land travel from Kalibo to Boracay, it’s always better to buy a plane ticket that goes straight to Caticlan airport because its just 5 minutes away from the port where boats going to Boracay island are docked.
Kalibo to Boracay
From Kalibo International Airport in Kalibo, Aklan, take any of the transfer services found just outside of the airport. Taking the van is normally faster and cheaper than the bus but if you want more comfort or legroom during the two-hour travel, take the latter like Southwest.
Caticlan to Boracay
Once you have reached the Caticlan Airport or also known as Godofredo P. Ramos Airport in Malay, Aklan, you could take the transfer services that would bring you to Boracay. Similar to the transfer services in Kalibo, the transfer services which are just outside of the airport will take care of everything until you reach your hotel.
If you plan to do-it-yourself (DIY) and experience how locals travel from Caticlan to Boracay, here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Ride the Tricycle
Tricycle is a common mode of transportation in the Philippines and these motorcycles with sidecar attached to it are found on the main road, just right side of the airport’s arrivals exit. Pay the fare for both the tricycle and boat at the booth. You will be given three sets of papers which include a passenger data sheet and the tickets for both rides. One you have everything, just let the tricycle take you to the Caticlan Jetty Port Terminal.
Step 2: Pay the Terminal and Environmental Fees
Before you enter the Caticlan Jetty Port Terminal, stop by the ticket booth on the right side of the entrance and pay the terminal and environmental fees. You will be given a pass which you will need to enter and reach the other side of the terminal where the port is located. Once you have paid the fees, head inside the terminal and register your name and fill out the passenger data sheet at the reception area then take the exit on your right to the port.
Step 3: Take the Boat
Give the boat ticket and passenger data sheet to the boat crew and let the boat take you to Cagban Jetty Port in the island of Boracay. The entire boat ride will take approximately 15 minutes.
Step 4: Go to Boracay Town Proper
At Cagban Jetty Port, choose your preferred mode of transportation. You have the option to take a habal-habal and be a passenger on a motorcycle, a muticab ( 8-passenger mini-van) or another tricycle. Any of these local transportation vehicles can take you to almost any part of the island particularly your hotel or the Boracay uptown where the center, white-sand beach and heart of Boracay is located. Just tell the driver your exact destination.
Finally, have fun and enjoy Boracay! Hopefully this guide has helped you on your way to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Feel free to share this to your friends or comment below if you have questions.
