Apex Legends Common Errors:
- Connection to server timed out. See ea.com/unable-to-connect for additional information
So I have been playing Apex Legends for a couple of weeks now since the game’s launch and I am loving every inch of it. Every match in this futuristic Battle Royal game feels fresh and satisfying except for the annoying disconnections and crashes.
I am not really sure if its my hardware or my internet connection but as far as I am concerned, I am pretty much in between the minimum and recommended system requirements that this game needs. I even tried putting all graphic settings to its lowest and disabling all effects but nothing really helped in fixing the issue.
So if you are like me who enjoys this game so much but gets this kind of error or worst seeing the game suddenly disappears right before your eyes then this video hopefully helps you.
Just a reminder though, there is no 100% guarantee that any of the fix here would rectify the problem but I assure you that it would help a lot in reducing the disconnections and crashes as well as some technical issues with the game.
Fix #1 – Restart your Modem & Router
Sometimes, a very complicated technical problem could be fixed by just giving your device a reboot. So go ahead and turn off your router and modem. Leave it switched off for about 10 seconds and turn it back on. If your modem or router is causing the issue this should help fix it.
Fix #2 – Run Origin and Apex Legends as Administrator
Running a program as administrator is simply telling your system that the app is safe to run. It also allows the app to have extra privileges and features such as access to Windows files.
You do this by looking for the app in your Start menu, right click the app, select open file location. If it gives you a shortcut with the little arrow on the lower left of the icon, just right click it again then select open file location. The app will be highlighted so just right click and select properties. Go to Compatibility tab and put a check on the box that says Run this program as administrator and hit OK. Do this for both the Origin and Apex Legends app then restart your game.
Fix #3 – Flush DNS
Whenever your computer access an IP address or website, it keeps track of those data and saved it on your system. However, these data become old and most of the time become outdated. And the way to keep everything fresh is by flushing your DNS.
You do this through the Command Prompt app. Open start and search for cmd. Right click on it and run as administrator.
- Type in ipconfig/flushdns and press Enter.
- Type in ipconfig/registerdns and press Enter.
- Type in ipconfig/release and press Enter.
- Type in ipconfig/renew and press Enter.
- Lastly, type in netsh winsock reset and press Enter.
- Finally reboot your computer to complete the process.
Fix #4 – Reset your computer’s Hosts file.
Sometimes, resetting your system’s hosts file could help with some connection issues especially if your computer has been infected by a virus or malware.
First you need a the default hosts file. Just download this file and save it on your computer.
Clicks start and search for this %WinDir%\System32\Drivers\Etc
This would open windows explorer with your system’s hosts file. Its best to keep the old one as backup just in case anything goes wrong. You do this by renaming the existing hosts file and adding .old to it. Now just copy and paste the new and default hosts file to this folder.
Fix #5 – Clean Boot
Disabling startup applications helps in cutting down the number of applications running when your system boots up. This is extremely helpful in making sure that there are no other applications that might be interfering with Origins or your game.
Search and open msconfig on the Start menu.
Select Services tab and put a check on the box that says Hide all Microsoft Services.
Click Disable all.
Search and open Task Manager on the Start menu.
Select Startup tab and start disabling every startup program in this list by right clicking and selecting disable.
Restart your system nad run the game.
It’s also best to run the game with no other applications running in the background. Apex Legends is very demanding in resources. So it is highly recommended to stop using any other application while playing the game.
